At Ashanti Design, we believe that every space has the potential to be transformed into something extraordinary.
Recently, we had the honour of being part of an exciting project that exemplifies this belief - the renovation of Nando’s Central Kitchen in Johannesburg.
What once stood as a collection of factories, buildings, and warehouses, serving as the original home and headquarters of Nando’s, has undergone a remarkable makeover. The humble sauce bottling plant of this iconic South African food and restaurant brand has been reinvented into a contemporary, cohesive, and authentically African-inspired precinct.
Central Kitchen, the heart of Nando’s and the birthplace of its story, underwent a significant update. The goal was clear: to create an interior that not only celebrates the best of South African design but also embodies Nando’s contemporary African aesthetic.
To achieve this vision, the company enlisted the expertise of design curator Tracy Lynch to coordinate the project. We are incredibly honoured to have been featured alongside a host of talented South African designers in this renovation. Tracy brought together the work of over 50 designers, makers, and artisans, resulting in a space that is stylishly eclectic yet harmoniously cohesive.
Nando’s Central Kitchen stands as a testament to the vibrancy and diversity of South African design. From beaded mirrors to innovative lighting, from handcrafted furniture to patterned furnishings, every element has been carefully curated to reflect Nando’s unique brand identity.
Our Etosha Tildi lampshades, meticulously positioned as wall lights on a hand-painted mural, designed by Bonolo Chepape and painted by Peacock Painters, are just one example of how our products seamlessly integrate into the space.
We created a total of 9 x Etosha Tildi lights in 1000mm diameter x 50mm height.
A collection of our Etosha Tilid and Etosha Sika lampshades, installed as clusters and adorn various areas, adding to the eclectic charm of the surroundings.
A combination of:
- 8 x Etosha Tildi 600mm ø
- 10 x Etosha Sika 600mm ø
But our involvement doesn't stop there. We are also the manufacturing partner for the stunning Nokkhanya Lampshade, designed by Nando’s Hot Young Design finalist, Siviwe Jali from Umugqua Studio.
These striking pieces can be found throughout the space, adding a unique flair to meeting rooms and seating areas.
A collection of:
- 3 x Nokkhanya 600mm (l) x 200mm (w) x 250mm (h)
- 6 x Nokkhanya 1200mm (l) x 200mm (w) x 250mm (h)
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nando’s for setting an inspiring example of what a creative head office space can aspire to be, all while supporting the South African design industry. As we reflect on this remarkable collaboration, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to continue adding flavor to future spaces.
Thank you for joining us on this journey of transformation. Together, let’s continue to spice things up and create spaces that inspire and delight.
