Nestled within the heart of Botswana's Moremi Game Reserve, Tawana Lodge offers an exclusive and immersive safari experience. This luxurious retreat, run in partnership with the Batawana tribe, whose ancestors have called this land home for centuries, is shaded by majestic ebony and sausage trees. Overlooking the perennial Gomoti River and the expansive floodplains beyond, the lodge is a sanctuary where nature and comfort coexist harmoniously.
Guests arrive via an enchanting curved reed-and-wood tunnel leading into the camp, which is seamlessly integrated into the landscape. The lodge's elevated wooden walkways provide safety and panoramic views, connecting the main area to the eight private suites. Each suite is thoughtfully designed for maximum privacy and comfort, featuring a spacious lounge with a minibar, a day bed, and a writing desk with a mini tablet for easy communication with the lodge's team.
The suites boast luxurious amenities, including king-size or twin beds with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, and well-appointed en-suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. Each suite opens onto a private deck with a plunge pool and a sala, offering breathtaking views of the floodplains.
Tawana Lodge’s central area is equally impressive, with open-sided lounges and dining spaces under high thatched roofs. The design blends neutral tones with vibrant accents inspired by local wildlife, creating a serene and stylish atmosphere. Sustainable materials, such as eucalyptus and blackwood, complement the lodge's eco-friendly ethos.
We believe that great design extends beyond aesthetics; it’s about crafting experiences that resonate with their surroundings. In collaboration with the talented team at Inside Projects, we had the privilege of contributing to this exceptional project. We are thrilled to share our latest collaboration with Natural Selection at the newly opened Tawana Lodge, which celebrated its grand opening in May 2024.
ILLUMINATING THE MAIN AREA
In the lodge’s main living area, three massive custom pendant lights take center stage. Hand-welded in our Cape Town studio, each panel is upholstered in our raffia fabric, creating a unique texture that complements the lodge’s organic aesthetic. The pendant lights add a touch of handcrafted elegance while enhancing the space's warm, welcoming atmosphere.
LUXURIOUS SUITES WITH CUSTOM TOUCHES
Each of the eight suites at Tawana Lodge features our bespoke Kiya lampshades. These bedside lamps, crafted in custom sizes and colours inspired by the organic tones of the surrounding landscape, add a warm to the luxurious interiors.
Above the coffee bar, are custom-designed and created wall sconces. These wall lights were welded frames made by our talented team and upholstered in our raffia fabric. Below them, you will also find our banana leaf and raffia fabric which has been used in the cabinetry.
THE MKUNI AND KIYA LAMPSHADES
One of our proudest contributions to the lodge is the custom Mkuni and Kiya lampshades. These handwoven pieces are a testament to our commitment to blending traditional artistry with contemporary design.
THE CELLAR AND SHOP
In the lodge’s serene cellar, our best-selling Mkuni lampshades hang at varying levels, their woven designs mirroring the earthy tones of the Botswana landscape. The lodge’s shop, with its towering thatched roof and wooden beams, features another stunning collection of Mkuni lampshades. Suspended gracefully, these bespoke lights complement the shop’s design palette, inviting visitors to bask in the handcrafted charm that defines the lodge.
