For the new Nando’s Somerset West Drive-Thru, we were commissioned to create a collection of twelve custom handwoven Juju lampshades, a bold lighting installation designed to complement the restaurant’s soaring ceilings and warm, contemporary interior.
This project, led in collaboration with Elizabeth from Tin Lab, showcases the best of local South African craftsmanship, sustainable materials, and large-scale woven design.

Each lampshade was designed from scratch, beginning with concept sketches and 3D renders before moving into full-scale weaving. We reimagined our original Juju silhouette using a brand-new weaving style, resulting in shades that stand 900mm tall and 500mm wide, sculptural pieces made entirely by hand in our Cape Town workshop.
The custom colour gradient, blending soft whites into warm yellows, was developed specifically for this restaurant to create a glowing, uplifting atmosphere that enhances the dining experience.

Seeing the installation come to life inside Nando’s Somerset West was a defining moment for our team. The handcrafted lampshades add warmth, texture, and character to the interior, transforming vertical space into a striking visual feature.
This project reflects our commitment to high-quality handmade lighting, locally produced craftsmanship, and meaningful collaborations with South African designers.

A special thank you to Elizabeth from Tin Lab for the vision, trust, and partnership. We’re proud to see our custom woven lighting shining in another iconic Nando’s space and proud to keep sharing the beauty of handmade design across South Africa.
