Nando's Bedford

Nando's Bedford

Taking our weaving off the ceiling and onto the walls

We always get excited when a brief comes through that asks us to do something a little different. While lighting might be what we’re best known for, our weaving doesn’t necessarily have to hang from the ceiling.

For Nando’s Bedford in the UK, designed by Stac Architecture, the brief took our weaving onto the walls.

We created a collection of giant woven wall discs to be installed throughout the restaurant. Each disc was individually woven in a different pattern, giving us the opportunity to play with familiar techniques in completely new ways.

A different way to weave

One of the things we love about custom projects is being able to take what we already know and push it somewhere new.

With the Bedford discs, the weave itself became the feature. Different patterns, directions and combinations gave each piece its own identity, while their scale allowed them to become part of the interior rather than simply decoration added afterwards.

And then there was the colour palette.

Deep burgundy was woven through the pieces, sitting against the orange accents used throughout the restaurant. The combination brought together colour and texture in a way that felt bold without every piece needing to be the same.

From Cape Town to Bedford

Each of the wall discs was created by hand in our Cape Town workshop before making its way to its new home in the UK.

Projects like this are always fun for our team because they challenge us to think beyond our existing collection. A weaving technique we might usually use on a lampshade suddenly takes on a completely different character when it is scaled up and placed on a wall.

The finished Bedford project is a pretty good example of just how far a bit of weaving can go.
